Poros is the island of peacefulness, romance and jauntiness. It is covered with
pines that reach as the steep coasts or its sandy beaches. The residents of
Poros are, as all the islanders in Greece spontaneous, decent and hospitable.
The houses in the beach are big and their rhythm is neoclassical in contrast to
the simple two-storied houses in Brinia, in the Mill, in Pounta and in Kasteli.
The first residences were built in 1463 in the region round the Roloi. Between
the graphic alleys of Poros and the white whitewashed houses, full of flowers,
they are found scattered many little taverns. Lengthwise of the mole the visitor
meets in a line, a crowd of cafeterias, restaurants, tourist shops and bars and
clubs with greek and foreign music.
Today, the Poros with its traditional colour, the picturesqueness, the cosmopolitan life and the modern comforts fairly has been valorisen as an ideal place of vacations.
