Ithaca is found north-easternly of Kefalonia and is separated with a narrow channel. Is smaller in size and population afterwards Paxoi, island of the Ionian, but well-known in the all world as the island of nostalgia and love for the “homeland”, where reigned the artful Odysseus of Homer.
Ithaca, is an island with tradition, history, culture and steadfast the love of the residents for their place. Its beauty is infrequent, characteristic the opposition of wild and calm nature as well as the repeated alternation of the landscape. Its capital is Ithaca (Vathy), a picturesque small city with a peculiar gulf that it closes in its embrace the islet Lazareto and its two Venetian castles. A band of ground of width of 620 m. in the Aetos connects the two peninsulas of the island. Exciting is the view of the island and harbour from the abbey of Virgin Mary of Katharon with the excellent picture of Drawn Christ and the imposing belfry.
