The prefecture of Serres belongs in the department of
Macedonia and is considered as one of the flattest prefectures of Greece. Serres
borders on the prefectures of Drama, Kavala, Thessaloniki and Kilkis and northly
to the country of Bulgaria. It constitutes a prefecture with infrequent natural
beauty and archaeological monuments, as the archaeological place of Amfipoli and
the ancient and Byzantine citadel of Serres.
Big interest has also the natural wealth of the prefecture. Beginning from the cavern of Alistrati in Petroto, the eminent forest Lailias with his ski center and continuing in the village Kerkini with his homonym artificial lake as well as in a lot of other places of the prefecture, the visitor has the possibility of knowing this particular place and of having a splendid staying thanks to the generous hospitality of the residents.
