Alexandroupolis, the daughter of the Thracian Sea is the secular capital of the prefecture of Evros and the largest port in Thrace. In south-eastern utmost of the prefecture of Evros, in the borders with Turkey, a few kilometers from the Traianoupoli and the Ancient Dorisko, the river Evros shapes a rich delta, a water biotope of international importance, of total extent of 200 square kilometres. The delta of Evros is protected by the Ramsar Treaty and a huge ecosystem is ideal for live fish, insects, birds, plants and animals. The big variety of types of vegetation of Delta of Evros composes a variform mosaic.

Sights of prefecture Xanthi

Τhe tobacco warehouses: The first tobacco warehouses appeared in 1860 and consisted by one floor. The shape of the buildings is rectangular with flat surfaces and simple roof. Later, in the late of 19th century tobacco warehouses were built much larger than earlier but also had been made by wood and stone.
